Leading with enterprise thinking
Create time for strategic thinking
Create time for strategic thinking
15 minutes

Strategic thinking is crucial for any leadership role, yet so many leaders struggle to find time for it. According to research by Rich Horwath, CEO of the Strategic Thinking Institute, 96% of leaders lack adequate strategic thinking time.
It helps leaders assess the current state of the team, identify future goals, and determine the necessary steps to achieve them.
To create time for strategic thinking, follow these three steps:
1
Delegate tasks
Make a list of all your tasks, sorting them into three categories: exclusive to your role, delegate with training, and readily delegate. Focus on delegating the latter two categories to appropriate team members, providing necessary training and setting clear expectations.
2
Schedule dedicated time
After successful delegation, implement time blocking by scheduling specific, uninterrupted periods each week dedicated solely to strategic thinking. Treat these blocks as critical appointments on your calendar.
3
Monthly review
At the end of each month, evaluate the effectiveness of delegation and the strategic focus achieved during these time blocks. Adjust as necessary to optimise both team performance and strategic output.
